Easy DIY Fluted Wood Vase

Instructions

  1. If needed, cut your dowels down to the height of your vase.
  2. Sand your dowels using 120 and 220 grit sandpaper until they are smooth. Wipe off any lingering dust with a cloth.
  3. Apply the oil-based pre-stain wood conditioner. After letting the pre-stain soak into the dowel for 5 minutes, wipe them with a clean rag to remove any excess.
  4. Stir the stain until any pigments that are settled at the bottom of the can have been evenly distributed.
  5. Wipe stain onto each dowel using a clean, lint-free cloth and wait 5-15 minutes for the stain to penetrate.
  6. Wipe off any excess stain using a clean, lint-free cloth and let the stain dry fully (4 hours).
  7. Add a bead of glue to your vase using your hot glue gun and place your dowel on the glue.
  8. Continue gluing your dowels to your vase until dowels line your entire vase.
  9. Apply 3 thin coats of Polycrylic, waiting 2 hours between each coat.
